Woolacombe and Mortehoe
Woolacombe and Mortehoe is one of our favourite places to spend the weekend in the summer. The 3 miles of golden sand and clean waters is suitable for swimmers and surfers alike, you can hire surf boards, kayaks and SUP boards or just chill out on the beach in the sun (here’s hoping anyway). The beach is patrolled by lifeguards from Easter-September. There’s plenty to do in Woolacombe to fill up your day aside from spending it on the beach, head to crazy golf, The Alchemist spa or mooch around the shops. Head to Mortehoe for a walk along the coast and pop to the pub on your return (take your pick). You really are spoilt for choice when it comes to where to eat in Woolacombe, we recommend Gobblebox for some seriously good street food or head to The Porthole for some great grub with a panoramic view of the Atlantic!Find out more
Dog friendly walks
North Devon boast a lifestyle suitable for you and your best (doggy) friend so we thought we’d put together a small guide on some local walks that we love to take Oaken, Frank and Eva on.
Close to Whitemoor farm is Codden hill, this walk will give you a real feel for the rolling hills of the North Devon countryside. At the highest point on a bright day you can see all the way from Exmoor to the sea.
Arlington Court has several walks which will take you through woodlands and nature reserves, you can also stop off at the tea room if you in the mood for a cuppa.
If you’re looking for an easy trail suitable for bikes you can park up at Fremington Quay and walk or cycle to instow and back, this is a lovely track with views of the estuary.Find out more
What to do on a rainy day
We’ve provided a rainy day guide to give you some insight on what’s on offer when the sun isn’t shining.
Let’s start with breakfast! A few minutes in the car to Landkey and you’ll find Willows tea room (Plant-based), it’s totally worth a visit for breakfast- you can grab something to take away if your heading back to the hut. If your ready to set out for the day, Aleafia wellness center in Barnstaple will cook you up some unreal plant based waffles and provides a seriously great vibe, if your feeling it you can grab a massage here or even yoga class! Barnstaple also has a Boston tea party and the Brew House is just on the high street if your craving a great coffee and pastry.
If you need to pick up some shopping, Barnstaple is only a short drive away. When it’s time for a break, visit Artisani for a coffee and some cake (HAVE THE CAKE you won’t regret it!) If your after something a bit different for lunch that’s full of flavour and local ingredients, check out Block– a personal fave!
North Devon has a farming background, it wouldn’t be right to leave without a trip to a farm shop! Newly opened Fields Farm shop will check off your shopping list with an abundance of local fresh produce!
